As a digital nomad, what do you think about the idea of living frugally to achieve early retirement?

Answered by Thibault Lemaitre, digital marketing consultant

I couldn't do this last year considering the huge trip I took. But now that I'm back, retirement and savings are some of the things that I've discussed a lot more frequently with my girlfriend as we plan for the future.

I think it's important to build yourself a safety net, for yourself, and for whoever you're sharing your life with. I'm not sure how early you're talking about, in terms of early retirement.

For me, luxury is no longer about how much money you make, it's about time and being able to find something that makes you happy, at work, and in your life outside work.

My girlfriend used to work an 80 hour-week with a huge salary in the US. But now, she's so much happier here in Europe because her work-life balance is so much better. This is the perfect example.

With that being said, I'm grateful for our European overlords for allowing us to have social security and state-funded retirement. It's something that our friends in the US or in certain developing countries may not have access to, and I don't ever want to take this for granted.
