What are some great places in Southeast Asia for digital nomads?

Answered by Leo Kipfelsberger, Facebook marketing consultant

My top 3 are the following:

Bali, Indonesia

  • Great cost of living for a comparatively very western lifestyle (food options, villas, nightlife, island vibes)
  • Large expat community: you will have no problem connecting with other foreigners, both adventure seeking tourist and fellow slower paced traveling digital nomads
  • Super friendly locals: Asia in general in my experience has welcomed me with open arms but Bali, in particular, is renowned for its ever smiling local population. Everything is based on mutual respect and people exchange acts of kindness frequently.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

  • For anyone who seeks live in a Metropolis HCMC covers everything you could be asking for - gigantic malls, a variety of nightlife options, shopping options for every taste
  • Surrounded by lots of getaway opportunities for weekend trips: Mekong Delta, Mui Ne Sand Dunes, waterfalls etc
  • Great hub to fly cheaply to other locations in SEA
  • Very large expat scene

Chiang Mai, Thailand

  • Something like a pilgrimage destination for digital nomads due to its cheap cost of living, western influenced lifestyle options and high speed internet
  • Lots of coworking spaces and cafes
  • Great community
  • Plenty of online resources available to help you settle in
  • Friendly locals
